What a stay at 'Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach is like
'Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach is a five-star Honolulu resort for travelers who want a lively Waikiki base with substantial leisure facilities rather than a quiet, secluded retreat. Its defining features include a two-story saltwater Oceanarium, the Swell pool deck, on-site Asian dining, fitness and wellness options, and a location on Kalakaua Avenue near Waikiki Beach. Rooms are generally around 31 square meters, with choices ranging from classic accommodations to oceanfront and Diamond Head ocean-view categories. The resort charge covers a broad package of beach, fitness, cultural, connectivity, and entertainment benefits, but the charge and included amenities can change, so review the terms for your dates.
Who it may suit
This resort is particularly well suited to couples, families, friends, and first-time Waikiki visitors who value beach access, a social pool scene, restaurants within the property, and a wide choice of room views. It may be less suitable if you prioritize a hushed pool environment, minimal extra charges, or a consistently quiet room; supplied guest feedback mentions pool crowding, street noise, and mixed perceptions of value.
Location and trip fit
The Kalakaua Avenue setting puts you in Waikiki's active resort district, with Waikiki Beach central to the stay and dining available at the property. This is a convenient choice if you want to combine beach time with resort facilities and avoid traveling elsewhere for every meal. Because Waikiki is busy, light sleepers should discuss room position and noise preferences with the property, while remembering that requests are subject to availability.

Rooms at 'Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach
Room names can hide meaningful differences in views, bed layouts, occupancy, and included extras. Use these sections as a starting point, then verify the exact room description for your dates.
Classic king and queen rooms
The classic category provides the core room experience without paying specifically for a named view. Supplied options include one king bed for up to three guests and two queen beds for up to four, generally in about 31 square meters. Standard conveniences include air conditioning, a refrigerator, coffee and tea facilities, a safe, and a television with streaming services. Choose by bed configuration rather than assuming a particular outlook, balcony, or view.
Mountain and partial-ocean-view rooms
Waikiki Mountain View rooms offer a named mountain outlook, while partial-ocean categories provide a less direct water-view option than full ocean-view rooms. Several two-queen variants accommodate up to four guests and include a balcony or furnished lanai in their supplied descriptions. These rooms can suit families or friends who want outdoor space or a defined outlook without moving directly to the oceanfront category. Verify the exact view wording because room photos and views may not match the room ultimately assigned.
- Waikiki Mountain View 2 Queens
- Room Only
Ocean-view rooms
Ocean View rooms come in one-king and two-queen configurations, with supplied descriptions identifying sea views. The king rooms accommodate up to three guests, while the two-queen option accommodates up to four. This category makes sense when seeing the ocean from the room is important but you do not necessarily need an oceanfront designation. Confirm whether your selected rate includes a balcony or lanai, since room descriptions vary.
Diamond Head and oceanfront choices
Diamond Head Ocean View rooms emphasize a combined sea and landmark outlook, with king and two-queen layouts available. Oceanfront options place greater emphasis on the water-facing position, and selected premium two-queen variants list a furnished lanai with ocean views. These categories are the strongest fit for travelers treating the room view as a central part of the trip. Carefully compare the full room name at booking because Diamond Head ocean view, ocean view, partial ocean view, and oceanfront are distinct labels.
Accessible room variants
Supplied accessible choices include king and two-queen layouts with roll-in showers or bathtub grab bars, across classic, partial-ocean, ocean-view, Diamond Head, and oceanfront categories. Maximum occupancy ranges from three in many king rooms to four in two-queen rooms. Accessibility needs vary, so confirm doorway dimensions, bathroom layout, bed clearance, fixture height, and the exact bathing setup directly with the property before booking.

What guests say about 'Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach
5,619 reviews
Review takeaway
In the supplied guest-review sample, the resort earns its strongest praise for its Waikiki location, friendly and attentive staff, attractive lobby, Oceanarium, pool setting, fitness facilities, and overall resort atmosphere. Several guests describe memorable service at Swell and say they would return. The less favorable feedback is concentrated around value, crowded pool areas, occasional street noise, and inconsistent room condition or cleanliness, including isolated maintenance complaints. Food and drink receive mixed reactions, with convenience and service praised more consistently than pricing. The pattern suggests a resort whose public spaces, location, and hospitality may impress more reliably than every individual room experience.
Common positives
- Convenient Waikiki setting near the beach
- Staff frequently described as friendly, attentive, and professional
- Distinctive lobby Oceanarium and educational tank talks
- Popular pool deck, outdoor bar, and resort atmosphere
- Strong fitness offering and a broad activity package
- King, two-queen, view, and accessible room choices
Points to weigh
- Some supplied reviews report room wear, maintenance, or cleanliness concerns
- Pool seating and crowd levels can be frustrating at busy times
- Street noise may affect light sleepers, including on higher floors
- Parking, resort charges, food, and other extras may weaken perceived value
- Room photos and advertised views may not reflect the assigned room exactly
- Food and beverage feedback is less consistent than feedback about staff and location
Liked: First the good stuff: The lobby is beautiful, meticulously designed, and spotless. The Oceanarium offers a standout feature uncommon to most accommodations of this caliber. All of the staff with whom I interacted were incredibly friendly, accommodating, professional, and kind. There are four functioning and fast elevators which is rare for older buildings in Waikiki. The ramen place next door is fabulous as is the premium restaurant also attached to the resort.Less than good: There’s nothing special about the rooms. My room was quite clean but the shower did not drain properly to the extent that I had to stop the water in order to drain the tub and then restart the water to resume showering. There was mold in the light fixture under the door. Paint was peeling in the room. The shower amenities are an off brand with an offensive stench prompting me to buy a small bottle of soap at the ABC next door to avoid smelling of rotten fruit each time I washed my hands. There are no other in-room personal hygiene amenities (e.g., shower caps, makeup remover wipes).Apparently, there are private pools, one of which was easily accessible with signage indicating you only need a room key to access. I learned a different card or type of membership is required after I was told to leave. This was surprising and embarrassing particularly because there was nothing explicitly stating that I couldn’t sit by that pool. Meanwhile, there were two unattended children in the pool who were allowed to stay. I later learned that day passes for the primary pool were available for anyone to purchase. This was especially irritating given the cost to stay at the hotel. Why act as though this is an exclusive, luxury resort when passes are sold to non-guests thereby creating a crowded environment of unruly tourists and children? The street noise is terrible. Even with earplugs and staying above the 30th floor, there was incessant traffic and yelling that prevented a decent night’s sleep for the entire trip.Food at the Swell pool deck was average and insanely overpriced. I wouldn’t stay here again unless there was a substantially better rate. It might as well have been an outrigger hotel.
Liked: Beautiful hotel. Very friendly and efficient staff. Clean, well-designed rooms and great pool area. Fully working wifi all round!
Liked: Your employee Ramon is an excellent worker!! He was super helpful, kind and assisted me with items that I needed for my room! Please extend my THANKS to him! He is definitely an asset to your hotel and I hope you tell him so! Thank you! Kelly Southwest Airlines Flight Attendant ❤️
Liked: I would stay at this resort again. The pool, lobby and outdoor bar were really nice. Awesome fish tank with live feeding times are great
Liked: My friends & I had a night out. We hung out at Swell Bar. We had such a wonderful time there. Ku'ulei the server at Swell was just so amazing. She made it for me & my girls, a night of great memories!! Highly recommend her! She definitely knows how to give amazing service!!
Liked: Kuʻulei was the best of the best! So friendly, efficient, and all around good energy. She knew the menu well and made great food and beverage suggestions! Will definitely be coming back and will look forward to service from Kuʻulei!
Liked: Crystal was literally the best server ever! We come all the way from Minnesota and she had such great hospitality. Very welcoming , respectful, and friendly. She made our experience amazing here.
Liked: Beverly did an amazing job throughout my stay and was always very nice and helpful.
Liked: Crystal was a delightful waitress and showed continuous care and kindness towards my family and I.
Liked: The Swell Pool Bar at Alohilani Resort was a great location to relax. The staff were great, Crystal specifically was excellent and was extremely attentive and personable. Thanks for the great week in Hawaii.

Liked: Jonesy was absolutely amazing! He was so friendly, funny, and brought such a great vibe to our holiday experience . His positive energy and excellent service made the whole experience even better. Thank you, jonesy—we’ll definitely be back!

Liked: Excellent location. Very clean and friendly staff. Great gym. Lots of activities
Could be better: Hard to get a chair at the pool deck as it’s open to the public.
Liked: Loved the location and how clean and pretty it was.
Could be better: The hall had a faint weed smell.
Liked: המלון נקי, הלובי ענק. יש אקווריום בלובי. הצוות אדיב וקשוב לכל בקשה. המלון נקי.
Could be better: המבחר בארוחת הבוקר מאוד דל.
Liked: Online listing looks nice but actual hotel is not well maintained. Rooms smell and do not look like the rooms in the photo. This property has so much potential but it doesn’t live up to it.Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.
Liked: The location of the hotel is in a good access to everything from bus stop, beaches ,restaurant and everything,we love the atmosphere of the hotel and the room is spacious ,it's really relaxing, the staffs are very friendly, all of them esp. the pool attendant Jonesy Valenzuela and we also wanted to thanks PT ,he's so kind to us.We hope to go back and choose this hotel again. We really had a great time, thank you.More power to all of you.
Liked: What made up for it a bit was the view from the 21st floor overlooking Diamond Head and Waikiki.
Could be better: Our most expensive and final hotel on the trip. The room was the smallest. You could barely turn around in the bathroom. The shower mat didn’t fit in front of the shower; otherwise, the door wouldn’t open. Breakfast was pretty much an ordeal. Outside, there was barely any space, and there were tons of sparrows that had pooped all over the place. You had to wait; it wasn’t cozy, and everything on the menu was constantly sold out. We weren’t even able to order the Vanilla Cold Brew once during our stay. On the first day, there were no spoons, so I had to eat the acai bowl with a fork. Valet parking here was another downside compared to our first hotel, also in Waikiki. However, it’s in a better location, so you can find free parking near the zoo if you’re willing to walk a bit.
Liked: Nothing
Could be better: Noisy. Staff didn’t care
Liked: There's lots, and I mean LOTS,to unpack here, so I'm going to do my best to keep it high-level.The staff: From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the sweetest gal, Renee. I was a little early to check in, and she got me all checked in, held my bags, and helped sort out a tiny miscommunication with the way I booked. We got everything resolved quickly! She was absolutely fabulous. Every interaction I had with the front desk was wonderful, and the bell desk was equally as helpful. The location: Tucked away on a one-way side street, the pickup and drop-off process is effortless. It's within walking distance of everything—the zoo, the beach, shopping, and more. There's even an ABC Store downstairs, which makes grabbing anything you need super convenient. The rooms: I had the sweetest housekeeping team! I was constantly in and out of the room, and they always found a way to clean it and keep everything fresh. Loved my cleaning gals! The Longboard Club: If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend it. Chef William and the entire Longboard Club staff were the literal definition of chef's kiss. We always felt welcome and genuinely cared for. Chef William deserves a special shoutout, he's the best! Always positive, so welcoming, and incredibly thoughtful about our dietary restrictions. He truly elevated the entire experience. He and the Longboard Club staff are an easy 11/10.We've stayed in Waikīkī before, but this stay absolutely blew the others out of the water, literally. Mahalo to all of the staff and the behind-the-scenes team who make this hotel feel so effortless. ✨
Liked: Just hung out at the fish tank with Ophelia and friends for a feeding. Noah was very knowledgeable and friendly and made the feeding experience far more entertaining than I’d expected. Thanks Noah! 🙏🏾
Liked: We got to see the fish feeding and Noah was so awesome taking the time to explain all the different fish. He was super sweet to all the kids huddled around the tank and taught everyone a little something that day! I didn’t realize it was that easy to get lost in the beauty of the fish tank for an hour because of all the interesting facts he pointed out! Thank you Noah!!!
Liked: I stayed in 2 queen bed apartment with my family. Rooms are crammed with Mobility inside the room being very limited . Restrooms had leaking water . Bathtubs were old fashioned, no way to adjust the flow of water from the shower head. Lockers were not working. Coffee machines were not working properly and quality of coffee pods were of cheap quality. This is no 5-star hotel. It is same as Motel 8 but I paid exorbitant price for living there.
Liked: L’emplacement
Could be better: Pas assez de transats à la piscine
Liked: Location great and very good facilities
Liked: This hotel located right across from Waikiki Beach with easy access to numerous eateries and food trucks within walking distance. The lobby features a massive fish tank and a variety of activities throughout the day. The pool is located on the 5th floor, and while lounge chairs are limited, you can relax in the Swell pool bar area. Parking is slightly pricey but highly convenient. We chose to stay on the 36th floor, and the view was simply breathtaking. Our housekeeper, Loita, was incredibly sweet and attentive. She went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable and memorable.Compared to other hotels I’ve stayed at in Waikiki, this one stands out as one of the cleanest. The hotel provides complimentary towels at the pool and at the bellman’s desk. However, there’s no microwave in the rooms, but you can rent one for $10 a day or $50 for the entire stay. One minor drawback is the noise pollution on weekends. Even from the 36th floor, we could hear sirens and the occasional drunken person screaming on the street. Additionally, the elevator operates very quickly, and if you miss tapping your card, you might end up riding it up and down for a while.
Liked: 立地が素晴らしく良かった。
Could be better: 特になし
Liked: Location
Liked: The location, the gym was amazing and the rooms are spacious.
Could be better: The pool was cold and we hadn’t realised that the classic rooms would be so noisy. The walls are thin, particularly the interconnecting rooms.
Liked: How close it was to the beach
Could be better: Overall, my stay was okay, but I experienced several issues that affected my visit.First, I wasn’t able to enjoy the complimentary breakfast that was included with my stay because my son has a severe nut allergy. Unfortunately, there weren’t any safe options for him to eat, and I wasn’t willing to risk his health. I asked the front desk if they could comp the breakfast since we couldn’t use it, but they were unable to accommodate my request.Second, housekeeping service was very slow. I requested extra towels and had to call the front desk two or three times before they were finally delivered. My biggest concern, however, is that I was charged a smoking fee even though no one smoked in the room. I was traveling with my children, and we do not smoke. I even explained that any odor may have come from my wife’s hair styling tool, but it didn’t seem like my explanation was taken into consideration.Given these issues, especially the incorrect smoking charge and the other inconveniences we experienced during our stay, I would appreciate it if you could review my stay and consider issuing a refund, removing the smoking fee, or providing some form of compensation.Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Liked: Everything
Could be better: Nothing
Liked: Beautiful hotel with a great location in Waikiki and lovely staff who always helped with our requests. We loved Alohilani!
Could be better: Only (very minor) issues: we paid for parking onsite, but sometimes the lot was filled by non-guests and we had to go to valet. It was no extra charge, but inconvenient compared to just parking ourselves. Also, beach towels ran out very early every day and were not refilled in the afternoon.
Liked: De ligging en de lobby.
Could be better: De badkamer en de slaapkamer geheel. Schoonmaak kon ook iets beter.
Liked: la proximité de la plage
Could be better: les photos font croire que l'hotel est sur la plage, ce qui n'est pas le cas et il n'a jamais été possible de bénéficier de services de l'hotel sur la plage
Guest reviews are supplied by the booking provider. We summarize recurring themes to make stays easier to compare.
Location, nearby places, and getting around
Hotel address2490 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815, USHow the location fits a trip
Waikiki Beach days
The beachfront setting makes the resort practical for travelers planning frequent beach visits. The resort-charge package is stated to provide three daily Beach Candy Waikiki credits per room, per night, which can be applied toward items such as beach chairs, umbrellas, surfboards, and paddleboards. Dining at the resort

Getting around
The resort lists car-hire, concierge, tour-desk, luggage-storage, and express check-in or checkout services. A car may be useful for exploring beyond Waikiki, but parking costs should be considered when comparing transport options. No verified airport transfer or public-transit details are supplied, so arrange your preferred airport transportation separately and confirm any pickup instructions directly with the relevant provider.
Parking
Private and accessible parking are listed, but no current parking price is supplied. The resort information states that, for the first night, guests paying the self-parking rate receive an upgrade to valet service.
